Description
William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody: Stetson Hat Purported To Be Buffalo Bill's. Wonderful relic Harkening back to the Old West, a fur Stetson hat purported to be Buffalo Bill Cody's. The hat has the logo of John B. Stetson , Philadelphia on the inside silk lining. On the inside of the leather sweatband there are the numbers "4666" and "4227", likely Stetson serial numbers. With the hat comes a hand written note reading: "Buffalo Bills real hat. Andy purchased it 55 years ago for $10. Nov. 1967". On the back it reads: "Purchased out west about 1912 Contact Stetson valuable as a collector item". With the hat comes a sword made by "Frank Henderson Kalamazoo, Mich." On the blade is an etched name "A.J. Foster", that being the "Andy" that purchased the hat. The blade measures 28" long and is in excellent condition. On the original leather scabbard it is inscribed "A.J. Foster, Joplin, MO". The last piece in the group is a modern copy of a cabinet card of Cody wearing a hat that looks exactly like the example being offered. The fur is in fine condition. The inside silk lining is torn, while the leather sweat band is in fine condition. The hat is housed in an old cardboard hat box.Auction Info
