Description

Paul Robeson: Large Archive of Programs, Imprints and Photos. Extensive grouping of items related to noted actor, recording artist and political activist Paul Robson. The programs deal with plays and recitals during the course of his illustrious, but controversial career. There are political tracts, song books and sheet music included. The earliest piece seems to be a "Provincetown Playbill" for the 1924-1925 season featuring a production of Eugene O'Neill's "The Emperor Jones" with Robeson in the title role. Robeson often appeared with the pianist Lawrence Brown, an African-American classical musician. There are some commemorative or memorial items. The two glossy black & white photos are later reprints. Condition varies, but generally good or better. Please refer to posted image.
From the collection of Ed Sullivan.
