Description

Civil Rights: Birmingham Campaign of 1963 Photo Essay. 20" x 16" modern black & white photo enlargement of student protesters being doused with high-pressure water hoses during peaceful protests against racial inequities and segregation in Birmingham, Alabama, organized by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., James Bevel and Fred Shuttlesworth. Strong-arm tactics by Sheriff Eugene "Bull" Connor resulted in highly negative publicity nationwide. That, along with peaceful protests by students enlisted in the cause, yielded positive results over the course of time. One of the participants, Gwendolyn Sanders Gamble, has written an essay on the right side and bottom of the photo, recalling the events and her feelings about the accomplishments of the protest. Sold together with a Letter of Authenticity from Gamble written on Nate Sanders letterhead.

Condition: Excellent.
