Description
Robert E. Lee: Signed Carte de Visite [CDV]. The CDV features a chest up portrait of Lee in his Confederate uniform and measures 2.5" x 4.125". Although the photograph was originally taken during the war, the albumen offered here is on a post-war Richmond, Virginia studio mount. Signed "R E Lee" on the albumen and inscribed on the verso in ink, "Walker Joynes with the Christmas greeting of Mary C. Lee/ Christmas 1868."Condition: Traces of blue ink on Lee's face, along his nose and beard. Spotting and staining on verso. Stray spots of foxing, with an abrasion affecting the word "greeting."
