Civil War Broadside: "Revolution! Danger!" Recruitment Notice, April 21st (1861). 17 1/2" x 21 3/4" (sight) framed to an overall 20 1/2" x 25". A rare and dramatic Civil War broadside calling for immediate volunteer enlistment in response to the looming Confederate threat. Issued in Towanda, Pennsylvania, this broadside warns of pending "Revolution! DANGER" and urges the citizens of Bradford County to take action before the South advances further. The call to arms is marked by its urgent tone, emphasizing that "The South are in motion! They are in earnest and are liable at any moment to march on Washington!"The broadside specifically summons local men to a meeting on Tuesday, the 23rd, to organize a Military Board, recruit volunteers, raise funds, and supply necessary equipment. The notice also lists prominent local figures supporting the effort, including J.C. Adams, Ulysses Mercur, J.H. Morrow, and B. Ford. Volunteers were expected to leave Towanda the following morning to join the war effort.
