Description

Nicola Sacco & Bartolomeo Vanzetti: An Extremely Important Collection of Paper Items Relating to these Executed Labor and Left-Wing Martyrs. 1) January 1921 letter on rare jugate letterhead, soliciting contributors for the "framed" defendants. 2) June 30, 1924 letter seeking support for a new trial for the convicted pair. Most unusual letterhead with photo of the pair with an unidentified woman. 3) Another letter on "Defense Committee" letterhead different from #1 above, expressing desperate need for funds as the two faced execution. 4) Jugate pledge sheet used to sign up supporters. 5) Rare 9" x 12" September 1927 publication called the "Labor Defender," published in Chicago by the International Labor Defense (National Committee members include Debs, Darrow, Upton Sinclair, Communist V. P. candidate Benjamin Gitlow, and a host of other luminaries of the Left). It includes a fabulous illustrated 9-page feature demanding the immediate release of the soon-to-be-executed pair, and detailing worldwide efforts by supporters. 6) A rare pamphlet, "Sacco and Vanzetti Speak to Judge Thayer," published by the Defense Committee. 7) 13" broadside mourning the execution, and encouraging supporters "Do Not Forget" (some water staining at bottom). Certainly the finest grouping of Sacco and Vanzetti paper ephemera we have ever encountered.
From the collection of Ed Sullivan.
