Franklin D. Roosevelt's Review of 3rd Division Honor Guard
U.S. 30th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Division National
Color. The 30th Infantry Regiment of the United States Army was
originally constituted in 1901. It was assigned to the 3rd infantry
Division in 1940 and was a component part of that division for the
entire war.This is a 47.5" X 75" silk, embroidered starfield, sewn stripe, color, finished with a pole hem sleeve, and fringed on three sides with 2" golden-yellow rayon fringe. The flag is marked on the obverse forth white stripe's hoist, "JAN 18 RABAT, HONOR GUARD 3RD INV DIV, FOR F.R. ROOSEVELT, REVIEW."
On January 18, 1943, FDR left the grounds of his villa for the first time during the Casablanca Conference. He embarked in a jeep to inspect a 3rd Division Honor Guard from a battalion of Thirtieth Infantry Regiment who had been assigned to protect FDR's compound. He was accompanied by Maj. Gen. G. S. Patton Jr., Commanding General First Armored Corps. The president observed the battalion preforming close order drill and inspected their arms and equipment.
The 30th Infantry Regiment was among the first to see combat in WWII. They landed with the 3rd Infantry division for the liberation of French North Africa and helped free the city of Casablanca. The 30th stayed near North Africa until 1943, during which they prepared for Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily. It was during this time that they were inspected by President Roosevelt.

The 30th Infantry WWII citations include the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with arrowhead for Algeria-French Morocco, four Presidential Unit Citations, French Croix de guerre with Palm and the World War II, Fourragère.
Condition: The color is in good to fair condition. It is used, worn, soiled, stained with some fracturing and splitting of the silk, and some losses in the lower fly.
This flag was formerly in the collection of Dr. Clarence Rungee, and is accompanied by his original museum inventory sheet with identifying information.
