Description

[Abraham Lincoln]: Anti-Republican Currier & Ives Cartoon. Medium folio Currier & Ives lithograph [17 1/2" x 13 1/4"] published in 1860, titled "'The Impending Crisis' - Or Caught in the Act." Issued after Lincoln's nomination at Chicago, it accuses Greeley of sabotaging his friend Seward, thereby helping Lincoln obtain the nomination. The three editors (Webb, Greeley and Raymond) stand on the wharf while Seward drowns in the river. "The Impending Crisis" was the title of one of Seward's speeches that was widely circulated in 1860.

Condition: Evenly toned. Loss to upper right corner with minor edge roughness.
