Description

George Washington: Lovely Period Pocket Watch. Items produced during George Washington's lifetime are highly prized, especially attractive display pieces. This pocket watch measures 2.25" across and is circa 1790-1800. It is likely of French or Swiss manufacture and has an enamel portrait dial that features an exquisitely-detailed military bust of "G. Washington". Technically speaking, it is a verge fusee center seconds watch with enamel dial, gilt full plate movement, pierced two-footed balance cock, and original bull's eye crystal. The silver case has a non-English hallmark and there is no name of a maker. We do not know if it still runs, although it probably does. There is some wear and chipping adjacent to the winding arbor. When it comes to political watches, this is about as nice as it gets.
