Description
[Map]. Centennial Texas Map by Cartographer Fanita Lanier. One printed on paper map, 34" x 25" (sight), March 1936. The work features hand-tinting in both red and silver colors throughout the map and its border. Lanier trained as an artist in Texas, New York and Paris before working as a cartographer for the U.S. Army Signal Corps and then the U.S. Air Force in the 1930s. After her service, she continued her study of art in El Paso and then made a life in Dallas. This map of "The Great Kingdom of Texas" was likely featured at the Texas Centennial Exposition held in Dallas in 1936. Framed to an overall size of 43.5" x 34", the map exhibits some toning and adhesive ghosting.Auction Info
