Description

Junius Brutus Booth, Sr.: 1852 Playbill. 10" x 19" playbill for the January 31, 1852 performance of Junius Brutus Booth, Sr. in the "Iron Chest" at the Chesnut Street Theater in Philadelphia. The playbill advertises an upcoming performance of comedians Mr. & Mrs. Barney Williams (whom John Wilkes Booth had a very disdainful view of). There are ink notations on the verso by the original owner indicating he did not attend the performance. Boxes for "Colored Persons" are advertised for 25-cents, indicating this was a segregated theater. Junius Booth was the family patriarch and a star in his own right. Generally in excellent condition with minor wrinkling and small border tears.
