Description

[Abraham Lincoln]: Ticket for Emancipation Proclamation Theatrical Performance. 2 ¾" x 1 ¾" ticket on green card stock with rounded corners, titled "Emancipation." The text reads: "President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation takes effect January 1, 1863. 'I, therefore, Abraham Lincoln.'" Given the wording and overall look to the piece, we surmise it was issued just before the proclamation took effect and is a ticket to a performance of some type commemorating the event. Wear and discoloration, but fully intact. An intriguing artifact of the period. An accompanying note from 1968 indicates it belonged to the great grandmother of the note's writer. It was given to the writer by her mother who was born in 1876.
