Miniature format: 30 x 40 mm (binding: 33 x 46 mm). Illustrated with an original drypoint etching by Picasso. Full brown calf, upper cover with a "bull's-eye design of three concentric circles of inlaid tan leather spotted and outlined in gilt to resemble cork, at the center of which is an overlaid bull's head spotted with metallic red, the lower cover shows the same design, but with the colors reversed, smooth spine with title letters in alternating gold and metallic red letters, calf doublures and suede endpages, by Georges Leroux, stamp-signed on front doublure and dated 1974 on rear doublure. Housed in calf chemise lettered in gilt and metallic red; calf edged board slipcase.

LIMITED EDITION, number 24 of 40 copies on Auvergne, of an edition of 50, SIGNED BY THE ARTIST AND THE AUTHOR on colophon in pencil.

Pablo Picasso's drypoint etching, which accompanies a brief poem by Benoit, depicts the very moment of the bull's death, after the blow, and is similar to plate 22 in La Tauromaquia (1959). This is the first of two miniature books illustrated by Picasso. A remarkable miniature book, illustrated by Picasso.

Condition: Minor thumbing, otherwise very fine.
