Description

Apollo 17 Lunar Module Flown American Flag Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot Ron Evans, as presented to his father. A 5.5" x 4" silk U.S. flag with an accompanying Typed Letter Signed. One page, 5.25" x 8" NASA letterhead, Houston, March 15, 1977, to "Dad". In full: "This flag of our Nation flew to the moon aboard the Spaceships 'America' and 'Challenger', Apollo XVII, December 6-19, 1972. I am honored to share this treasure with you in appreciation of your enthusiasm, to the achievements of the greatest nation in the history of the world. Your personal support and encouragement were deeply felt by me and my family during the flight of Apollo XVII. Sincerely,..." This letter was written the month Evans retired from NASA. A great and poignant memento of man's last trip to the moon; this flag was in the LM Challenger when it lifted off from the moon on December 13, 1972. Flag excellent, letter very fine.
