Private Purchase Spurs: Oakes Marked Pair.
Desirable pair of "Oakes" marked spurs. John Oakes was a spur manufacturer who operated in Birmingham, England beginning in the 1840's. His son William later joined the company, and was listed as "J. Oakes & Son" in the 1861 Birmingham trades directory. After John retired his son continued the business into the 1880's. This matched pair of Oakes spurs are large and heavy duty, and have a Mexican style 1 3/4" rowel. In excellent condition.
