Description
Spanish-American War: Pair of District of Columbia 1st D.C. U. S. Volunteers Service Medals.Both identical in form featuring bronze planchets in the shape of a 5th Army Corps badge, approximately 40 x 41-mm. The obverse features an armed soldier in a tropical setting with the caption: "Santiago / July 10-17 1898". The reverse is captioned: "FROM THE CITIZENS OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA / FIRST DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA REGIMENT U.S.V." The pendants show crossed rifles and the caption: "PRESENTED TO". A U.S. flag silk ribbon is suspended from the pendant.
