Revolutionary War: Daughters of the Cincinnati Medal Made by Bailey Banks & Biddle.

32-mm x 38-mm, gold-plated with light-blue and white silk ribbon. Marked B.B.B. & Co PHILA on the reverse. Engraved on the back "Brigadier General William Irvine." The Daughters of the Cincinnati was founded in 1894 by women whose ancestors were officers in George Washington's Army and Navy during the Revolutionary War.

This particular medal was issued to a descendant of William Irvine, who had originally served as a ship's surgeon for the Royal Navy. Irvine changed his alliance to the revolutionary cause and eventually became a brigadier general, serving in the western theater. He later served in the Continental Congress.
