Description
East India Company Cavalry Pistol, Pattern 1811/18.Unserialized, approximately .69 caliber, 9-inch barrel with fixed front sight. 32 stamped to top of barrel and upper tang. Lock marked: 1811 and (dancing lion), also [crown] over 2 which is the India Company inspector's mark. Smooth hardwood stock with brass furniture. Triggerguard marked: K.U. B.76. Also marked AB A3 opposite side of lockplate. Wooden ramrod [replacement from swivel/captive ramrod]. Together with letter from the Royal Armouries dated August 2008 addressing some of the concerns the previous consignor had regarding his recent acquisition. Peter G. Smithurst, Senior Curator, Firearms goes into detail and puts a great effort to address his inquiry and even includes several images of a East India Company Pistol currently at the Royal Armouries to show what a correct swivel ramrod would look like.
Condition: Good as configured and converted. Replaced parts present. Finish primarily a dark grey patina with scattered handling wear and patches of pitting. Dings and scuffs present to wood. Few cracks to base of stock. Added safety. Action good. Pitted bore.
