Description

Presentation Sword to Maj. Frank L. Burns, Service Co., 30th U.S. Infantry.

A handsome U.S. Army presentation sword, housed within a wooden and glass display case, inscribed on the scabbard PRESENTED TO / MAJ. FRANK L. BURNS / BY SERVICE CO. 30TH U.S. INF. / AUG. 14 1937. The sword features a rich gold-gilt finish, finely engraved blade with patriotic motifs and decorative scrollwork, and gilt scabbard mounts embellished with floral and acanthus designs. Visible portions of the sword indicate exceptional craftsmanship and bright gilt surfaces, suggesting it was created for ceremonial or commemorative purposes rather than field use. Blade is 30-inches long.

Please note; While the specific service record of Major Frank L. Burns has not been confirmed, the 30th U.S. Infantry Regiment was an active and distinguished unit during the early 20th century. The date and inscription style correspond to interwar-period presentation pieces recognizing officer service and dedication.

Condition: Very good overall as viewed within the case. The gilding remains bright, and the etched details and inscription are crisp and clear. No nicks or visible damage to the exposed portions of the sword or scabbard. The sword has not been examined outside the display case, so internal or hidden areas cannot be evaluated. The display ensemble presents beautifully, with only light age toning to the mount and case.
