Description
Victorian Era Etched European Spiked Shield.The shield with simple form, raised floral centerpiece and spike is approximately 24 1/2-inches in diameter. Fitted with a 2-inch spike in center with four sides. Decorative [8], 1/4-inch studs situated near the center with 23 outer studs near the edges. Etched main canvas with floral and armor motifs throughout. Roped pattern borders the diameter of the shield. Thin metal backing protects the back. Rivets/studs pierce thru the backing. Pattern and style resembles the 16th-17th century.
Condition: Good to very good with areas of pitting and surface rust. Shield appears to have been cleaned at some point also. Centerpiece needs adjusting. Backing with moderate to heavy wear, scuffs and pitting. Surface rust present.
