Description
Evidentiary Documents From the Joint Congressional Committee on the Investigation of the Pear Harbor Attack, June 20, 1946.The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor stunned the nation but Congress postponed a thorough investigation of the attack while the nation was at war. After the war Senate Majority Leader Alben Barkley was the first to call for action, presenting a Senate resolution on September 6, 1945. The resolution authorized a 10-member committee, evenly divided between members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, and chaired by Senator Barkley, to investigate "the facts relating to events and circumstances leading up to or following the attack made by Japanese armed forces upon Pearl Harbor." The results of the Committee were published and printed into many volumes which were heavily illustrated with folding maps, charts, tables and facsimiles of classified documents. The following documents are included in the lot:
Map of Pearl Harbor, marked Confidential and listed as Item No. 2
