NGC-Certified "Ex. Charles M. Duke, Jr."

Apollo 14 Flown MS66 NGC Silver Robbins Medallion Originally from the Personal Collection of Astronaut Charlie Duke, Serial Number 156, with Signed LOA. This 35mm x 30mm oval sterling silver medal is one of 303 flown to the moon aboard Apollo 14, January 31-February 9, 1971, with crewmembers Alan Shepard, Stuart Roosa, and Ed Mitchell. The obverse features the mission insignia depicting an Astronaut Pin (a gold pin that NASA gives to astronauts upon completion of their first flight) flying from the Earth to the moon. The reverse features the dates of the launch, moon landing, and return engraved with the crew's full names around along with the sterling and Robbins hallmarks. The serial number is on the rim. A Gem Uncirculated example from the collection of a moonwalker.

Included with this lot is a handwritten letter of authenticity signed "Charles M. Duke, Jr." on Apollo 16 letterhead, dated "November 16, 2007", stating: "Re: Apollo 14 Silver Robbins Medal/ I hereby certify that Apollo 14 Silver Robbins/ medal, serial number 156, was one that was/ flown aboard the mission January 31 - February 6,/ 1971./ As a member of the astronaut flight office, I was/ permitted to purchase this flown medal. It has/ been in my possession and a part of my personal/ collection of space artifacts since receiving it/ shortly after the mission./ My very best wishes./ [signed in script]/ Charles M. Duke, Jr./ Apollo 16 Lunar Module Pilot."
