Description

Civil War Era Recruiting Banner for the 2nd New Jersey Cavalry.
An excellent example that probably dates from August, 1863 while the 2nd NJ Cavalry was organizing at Trenton, NJ. Recruiting had become more difficult by this point of the Civil War and substantial bounties were being paid to new recruits. There is an excellent photograph in the National Archives that shows similar banners on the side of a building being used as a recruiting office. Incredibly rare and the only example we have seen.
