Description

Prussian Hannover Infantry Regiment Officers' Spiked Helmet.

A fine example with black-lacquered leather body, rounded front visor and gilt trim. The underside of the front visor is lined with green morocco; the rear visor with green morocco. The helmet features a 4 ½-inch tall spike mounted on a round base held by star retainers. Eagle front plate with "Waterloo" bandeau. There are no additional holes in the helmet body. Marked by hand size "52 ½" on the inside crown. Both cockades are mounted beneath flat chinscales held by simple rosette bosses. Officer's lining with a 2 ½-inch wide leather sweatband and buff silk head liner. This helmet was worn by officers of Hannover regiments 74, 77, 78, 164 and 165.

Condition: Near excellent. Light crazing to exterior finish; moderate wear to the liner. From the collection of J.T. Hamrick, M.D.
