Pair of Cole Agee Engraved Smith & Wesson Combat Masterpiece
Revolvers Belonging to Texas Rangers George Brakefield and later
Weldon Lucas, along with Badge worn during his time as a Texas
Ranger Private.Revolvers: Serial nos. K159443 and K159606, .38 caliber, 4-inch barrels, serrated front ramp and micrometer rear sights. Extensively floral/scroll engraved on fine punch dot background. Nickel-plated and case-hardened finish. Checkered walnut grips with medallions. Sold together with notarized letter from sister of Lucas stating that Cole Agee engraved both revolvers for Texas Ranger George C. Brakefield and that Lucas acquired them from the Brakefield family. Brakefield was a career law enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty in 1982. He served as a Texas Ranger from 1969-1981. He is buried by governor's proclamation in the Texas State Cemetery. Weldon Lucas had a 41 year career in Texas law enforcement. He served with Department of Public Safety as well as Sheriff of Denton County, Texas. He was a patrolman and sergeant with DPS before becoming a Texas Ranger. He has been enshrined in the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame. Praised as a law enforcement professional, he was also respected as a dedicated family man.
Badge: 1 5/8-inches in diameter, polished silver. Constructed from a Mexican 1947 or 1948 issue five peso coin which has been hammered slightly convex and voided to create the Texas "Lone Star" central motif. The badge is engraved on the obverse WELDON LUCAS/TEXAS RANGERS. The letters highlighted with black paint and enhanced with additional floral accents. The reverse still retains traces of the die struck 5 peso coin and features a hinged pin and barrel catch for mounting. Sold together with letter on Weldon Lucas letterhead to Paul Chapman, dated June 25, 1995 stating this badge "was my badge in the Texas Ranger Service. I wore this badge as a Texas Ranger Private before becoming a Ranger Sergeant. This is one of the few Ranger badges that I have ever sold." Signed Weldon Lucas, Retired Texas Ranger. Included is a copy of Heritage Auctions December 8, 2013 catalog, when these guns and badge last sold. Also included is an original signed photo of Weldon Lucas posing with The Deadly Drifter.
Condition: Guns; Excellent as presented. Cylinders with light tracking lines. Light handling wear. Bright bores. Actions excellent. Badge; Fine, light age wear and patina.
