Description

Superb Military Issue Colt 1860 Percussion Revolver Complete With Colt Factory Letter.
Serial no. 108518, .44 caliber, 8" round barrel with fixed front sight. Blued finish; frame, hammer and loading lever case colored. Walnut grips with faint inspector's cartouches "J.T." and W.H.R." All serial numbers match, including the wedge. The major metal parts have single or double letter stamps of government inspectors. The cylinder retains approximately 98% of the naval engagement scene with a trivial amount of pinprick pitting, all other factory markings are in excellent condition. Approximately 40% of the original military blue finish remains, mixed with a plum patina. A significant amount of the case colors remain. The grip has a few very small chips missing from the butt. A fine, mechanically crisp example with a bright bore. Sold with a Colt factory letter indicating that this was one of 1,000 similar revolvers shipped on April 1, 1863 to the New York Arsenal at Governor's Island.
