Early Civil War State of New York Enlisted Man's Shell Jacket.

Dark blue wool twill shell jacket with collar trimmed in white cord. Eight New York "Excelsior" buttons on the front. Seven buttons are marked "Steele / Johnson" and one marked "EXTRA QUALITY" on the reverse. Integral shoulder striped trimmed in white cord, both strap buttons present. 6-inch welt pocket on the right breast. Fully lined in beige polished cotton. No visible size or depot markings present.

Condition: Good. A few scattered small moth nips and holes; some old re-stitching to seams in places; lining sweat stained and with a few small tears and holes; inside collar lining has become detached; some loss of the white cord trim along the lower edge of the collar.
