Robert E. Lee: War-Time "Blockade" Portrait by Julian Vannerson.Oval albumen photograph measuring 6 1/4-inches x 7 1/4-inches (sight), framed to an overall size of [13 3/4-inches by 15 3/4-inches]. This well-known photograph of Lee is very rare in this large format presentation. Made at the behest of sculptor Edward Valentine to be used as a model for a work to be sold in England for the benefit of Confederate prisoners-of-war.
Condition: Image has light tonality, but still retains nice details. Minimal wear to edge of image. Overall a fine example of this seldom seen larger format.
