Description

Historic Silver Mounted Naval Dirk Attributed to Actor Edwin Booth.

Approximately 8-inches overall. 4 1/4-inch cruciform/diamond-shaped blade. Grooved pommel. Contained in a scabbard with oval frog stud. One side of the scabbard is engraved DAGGER OF EDWIN BOOTH and the other side reads GEORGE B. PENROSE. Interesting knife and association that deserves further research. Unfortunately, we have no history on George B. Penrose to add at this time. Knife appears to be of a dirk type or possibly a letter opener.

Edwin Booth; Famous actor and brother of John Wilkes Booth. Some consider Edwin one of the greatest American actors of all time. Edwin is often overshadowed by his younger brothers place in history; John Wilkes Booth who assassinated the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln.

Condition: Very good, Nice tarnish and toning overall. Blade with some minor pitting present. Handle and scabbard with minor bumps and fine scratches. Collection of a Southern Gentleman.
