Description

Rare Civil War Confederate Artillery Butternut Kepi.

A well-worn Confederate artillery kepi with butternut woolen body and traces of the red artillery cloth on the outer crown. This rare kepi shows the effects of 160 years of use and storage. The cardboard crown is cracked along the circumference and the body exhibits many old stitched repairs. The kepi retains portions of the original polished cotton lining and the partial leather sweatband has been restitched in places. The bill has likewise been reattached or strengthened at some point. Though the side buttons are missing the kepi is sold with a partial leather chinstrap. Though the condition is not optimal, this rare kepi would make an impressive display item and be an eye-catching addition to an advanced collection.

Condition: Poor, but certainly warrants some appropriate historical restoration/preservation.
