Early 3rd Model Colt Dragoon Revolver.

Serial no. 15552 [barrel, frame, triggerguard, loading lever, cylinder and butt] and [5713 on wedge], .44 caliber, 7 1/2-inch octagonal and round barrel with fixed front sight. Blued finish. Case-hardened frame, hammer and lever. Top of barrel marked: ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY. Left side of frame stamped: COLT'S / PATENT. Brass round triggerguard and backstrap. Rectangular cylinder stop slots. One-piece walnut grip. A and K inspector's mark on triggerguard. According to research and records, they were in production from 1851-1861 and approximately 10,500 made. This particular example was manufactured in 1856. An honest example of the most encountered model and variation.

Condition: Good plus. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with normal signs of age, handling wear and pitting. Faint bluing to protected areas. Moderate isolated pitting to muzzle area. Scene on cylinder is light but all there. Replaced nipples. Moderate dings and bruising to wood, mostly at bottom. Action good, dark bore. From the Collection of Oran B. Jolley.
