Civil War Veterans' Identification Disk Belonging to Private Griffin Ladue, New York 8th Heavy Artillery, Captured at the Battle of Petersburg.

Measuring just over 1-inch in diameter, the reverse is captioned at the top "WAR OF 1861" and at the bottom "ENGAGED IN THE ABOVE BATTLES". In the space between Ludue's battles are listed: "Spottsylvania [sic] C. H. / Coal [sic] Harbor / Petersburgh [sic] / Taken Prisoner at / Reams Station / Boydton Road". The obverse is marked "GRIFFIN LADUE / CO. K / 8th N. Y. / HVY. ART. / HAMLIN N.Y." The medal is suspend via stamped German-silver pendant featuring a profile bust portrait of Major General Joseph Hooker.

Griffin Ladue enlisted on August 13, 1862 at Clarendon, New York as a private. He mustered into "K" Company of the New York 8th Heavy Artillery. He was listed as a POW (date and place not stated) and paroled. He mustered out on June 5, 1865 at Munson's Hill, Virginia.
