Engraved Colt Model 1862 Police Single Action Revolver.Serial no. 20809 [barrel, frame, triggerguard and butt] and 0809 [wedge], .36 caliber, 5 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front sight. Top of barrel marked: ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA. Elaborately scroll engraved barrel, frame, hammer, triggerguard, backstrap and butt. Fluted cylinder. COLTS / PATENT stamped to left side of frame. Brass gripstraps. Smooth walnut one-piece grip. Manufactured in 1863. The Colt Model 1862 Police revolver is a distinguished percussion firearm from the Civil War era, celebrated for its refined design and historical significance. Engraved examples of this model are particularly prized by collectors for their craftsmanship and unique embellishments. From Opplemans Trading & Exchange Co.
Condition: Very good. Retaining traces of finish in protected areas, the balance a smooth grey patina with honest signs of handling wear, age and fine patches of pitting. Scattered dings and scuffs present to wood. Action tight, but functions. Strong bore. ?
