Engraved German J.P. Sauer Single Shot Target Percussion Pistol.

Unserialized, approximately .45 caliber [rifled], 7 1/2-inch octagonal barrel with silver fixed front and turn-key rear sight adjustable for elevation. Top of barrel marked: J.P. SAUER U SOHN A SUHL and ENGL GRASS STAHL, all accented in gilt. Fine elaborately scroll engraved lock, hammer and upper tang. Gilt accented lion behind hammer on lock. Floral and scroll carved stock. Top of barrel tang number 2, an indication this pistol was part of a pair. Sold along with wooden wall display with plaque that reads: PERCUSSION PISTOL / J.P. SAUER & SONS / SUHL, GERMANY / CIRCA 1860. Also included is a photocopy of an appraisal done by Paul F. Putty of Jackson Arms in 1989 in which the gun is described and highlights mentioned, appraised value and owner information has been removed.

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with scattered signs of handling wear and patches of pitting. Scratches and scuffs present to wood. Some cracks present to wrist and grip. Action good. Pitted bore.
