Description

Small Continental Crossbow.

Hardwood stock, approximately 37-inches in overall length, lath and string measure about 15-inches long. Steel stirrup. Brass and steel mounts overall. In working condition, cord present. Animal hide elements incorporated to the bow for appearance [later addition]. Tiller [butt] with decorative brass mount cap. Note: "Stone Bow" definition, according to A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor by George Cameron Stone, was the name applied to both long and crossbows used for shooting stones, pellets or balls [page 584].

Condition: Very good as configured. Showing noticeable areas of age and handling wear. scratches to metal, light rust in areas. Mars and bruising to wood. Minor stress marks to areas near screws/studs. Hide dry and hard. Dried tape residue. Appears to be in working order. From the Sylver Schaller Collection.
