Rare and Early U.S. American Light Horse Horseman's Saber.

A scarce example of a post-revolutionary war horseman's saber from the Federal Period, circa 1785-1800. Showcased on this sword is a turned [monkey face] lion head pommel made out of cast bronze. This sword exhibits a large five slot D guard, the purpose of which was to protect the user from cavalry strikes. The large sweeping blade measures 33 1/2-inches and has a false edge and stopped fuller, which terminates about 6-inches from the tip. No scabbard present. Note: This type of sword was used by the American Light Horse just after the Revolutionary War and during the War of 1812. 39-inches in overall length.

Condition: Fine, showing overall handling wear and period patina. Light marks are present.
