U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle.

Serial no. 231879, .45-70 caliber, 32 1/2-inch barrel with hooded front sight and adjustable Buffington rear sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. V / P / (eagle head) and A to top of barrel. Top of action marked: U.S. / MODEL / 1884. Lock stamped: (eagle) and U.S. / SPRINGFIELD. Smooth walnut straight stock with sling swivels and leather shoulder sling. U.S. marked metal carbine buttplate.

Condition: Excellent. Retaining approximately 95-97% finish with some thinning to relief edges, handling wear and fine patches of pitting. Scattered scuffs and dings present to wood. Action good. Strong bore.
