Description
Project Mercury: Collection of Space Covers (Five), One Signed. A nice grouping, as follows.(1) A Sarzin cover, cancelled October 13, 1959, at Port Canaveral, Florida, for the launch of Explorer 7. Cachet reads, in part: "Explorer VII Satellite Rocket Operation Kitchen Sink/ Launched by U.S. Army 4-Stage Juno 2 rocket..." Rare.
(2) Another Sarzin cover, cancelled February 21, 1961, at Port Canaveral, Florida, for the launch of Mercury-Atlas 2. Cachet reads, in part: "Astronauts View Space Capsule Successful Firing Feb. 21. 1961/ Unmanned Space Capsule Launched in Difficult Test..."
(3-4) Two identical Swanson SpaceCraft cacheted covers, cancelled July 21, 1961, at Patrick Air Force Base (addressed) for the launch of Mercury-Redstone 4. Cachet reads, in part: "2nd Manned Suborbital/ 'Liberty Bell 7'..."
(5) A first day cover for the "Project Mercury" 4ยข stamp, cancelled at Cape Canaveral, Florida, on February 20, 1962, the day of John Glenn's flight. Signed "Scott Carpenter" boldly at upper left. All excellent.
