Description
Strategic Air Command HGU-55/P Helmet with EEU-2/P Nuclear Flash Protection Goggles. A standard gray helmet with MBU-12/P oxygen mask and microphone assembly. Added is a PRU-36/P side-actuated dual visor (clear/ tinted) housing on which is a "W" bracket made for mechanical and electronic attachment of the included EEU-2/P goggles. These goggles, made of PLZT or lead zirconate titanite, are clear when powered by the plane's electrical system. As soon as a dangerous flash of light is detected, the circuit is broken causing the lenses to go black thus protecting the vision of the wearer. This early goggle model was developed originally for crews of B-52 and B-1 bombers. The metal carrying case is included and in good condition. Rarely offered as configured. Helmet and goggles are in very fine condition with minor scratching and soiling.Auction Info
