Description
Rare 6-Barrel Pepperbox Pistol Cane with Horn Handle.Overall length is 35-inches. This cane is unmarked by a gun or cane maker but the following markings appear on the pepperbox; [crown] over E on pistol frame, the number "2" on the face of the cylinder and "5. 197" at the rear of one of the cylinder flutes. Pepperbox is nickel-plated.
Functionality: The horn handle is pulled straight out from the wooden shaft to reveal a precisely crafted pepperbox pistol and mechanism, with a folding trigger that automatically deploys. The handle and pepperbox are joined by a silvered, sleeved collar, securely fastened with a screw and pins, ensuring a stable and functional connection.
Note: Cane guns are represented well in all the cane books, such as Cane Curiosa and Snyders book on canes, similar examples can be seen throughout those books. For examples of gun cane mechanisms, Cane Curiosa by Catherine Dike is a great source, although this exact mechanism is not pictured.
Condition: Very good to fine for this configuration. Wood with nicks from handling and storage. Some scratches and stable stress cracks to handle. Retains most plating with some scattered patina concentrating to the upper section, the rest has a bright plating patina. Toning to supporting parts. Mechanism works but does not advance. Bore ok.
