Description

Early Rondel Dagger.

A well-proportioned example of a medieval rondel dagger, measuring 16 1/4-inches overall, with a narrow 11 1/2-inch steel blade tapering to a keen, mail-piercing point. The form is characteristic of early 14th-century European sidearms. By tradition, from Rhodes. Notably, the dagger features an unmistakable Cross Potent, a symbol often associated with the Knights Templar, deeply engraved on the pommel, with an almost matching mark on the ricasso, possibly indicating ownership. The rondels are typical in form, with a robust guard and flattened disc pommel, both showing honest wear consistent with prolonged field use.
Included in the sale is a binder provided by the consignor with internet research related to Rondel daggers and the Knights Templar origin and influence.

Condition: Good, stable condition. The blade has been sharpened and cleaned, now exhibiting moderate pitting and a lightly brightened surface. The wooden grip remains structurally sound but shows evidence of lost rivets and decorative elements, now absent.
