Lincoln County Wars: Emil Fritz Military Appointment. Prior to becoming a Lincoln County merchant in partnership with Lawrence G. Murphy at Fort Stanton and Lincoln, New Mexico, Emil Christian Adolph Fritz, upon his arrival in America from his home in Germany, enlisted in the U. S. Army in the 1850's. This 15.5" x 9.5" vellum document is Fritz's appointment as First Sergeant in Company N of the First Regiment of Dragoons. It is dated December 3, 1860 and was issued in San Francisco. This represented a promotion from Sergeant to First Sergeant. He would eventually rise to the rank of colonel. There are a few scattered stains and some fading to the inked inscriptions.Auction Info
