Description
Lincoln County Wars: James J. Dolan Checkbook. This is the personal checkbook of James J. Dolan, one of the principals in the Lincoln County Wars which are forever linked with the violent career of Billy the Kid. The checkbook is 4" x 6 5/8" and has pebbled leather boards. There are thirty-two unused blank checks with the imprint of "The First National Bank of Las Vegas [New Mexico]". There are twelve check stubs all dated 1888 and all in the handwriting of James Dolan. It appears that Dolan was acting in the capacity of a local official as many of the stubs are marked "Jail Fund", "General Fund", "Regular Fund", "Land Office" and "Commissioners". Along with the other Lincoln County Wars items in this sale, this comes from the collection of a man who dedicated forty years to researching and collecting material from the event.Auction Info
