Description
John C. Fremont: Currier & Ives Cartoon. The first Republican Presidential candidate is lampooned, along with major New York City newspaper publishers, in this 18" x 13" Currier & Ives lithographed cartoon titled "The 'Mustang' Team". Greeley tries to persuade the tollgate keepers to let them pass, but to no avail. Fremont, carrying a cross representing his alleged Roman Catholic affiliation, declares: "There seems to be something in the road, but those fellows on the Horse will swear me through anything; so I'll keep mum." There are perhaps a dozen small, but insignificant border tears. The print has been professionally backed with rice paper and displays quite well.Auction Info
