Description

George Washington: Gunpowder Flask. During the Civil War, Washington was often invoked by Unionists to "bless" their cause. Here, his image appears on both sides of a 6.5" copper powder flask, flanked by laurel and olive branches, beneath a draped American flag and Phrygian or Liberty Cap. It has some dents and flattening, primarily in the midsection, but displays well and exhibits a lot of character. Although unmarked, we believe the maker was J. S. Riley.
