Description
Gerald Ford: Pewter Political Cartoon Plate. 11" Stieff polished pewter plate. custom engraved, titled: "New Lifeguard to the Rescue. John Q. Public's Thanksgiving Prayer." There is a cartoon in the center. Uncle Sam is drowning and lifeguard Ford dives in the water to rescue him. A newspaper headline says "News. Ford is the New President". On the right, a kneeling John Q. Public offers a bedtime prayer: "I Give Thanks for the Peaceful Change in my U.S.A." An engraving on the back indicates that two cartoons by Cy Hungerford of the "Pittsburgh Post Gazette Union" were used for the design and engraved by "Tabelus W." on October 19, 1976. We consider this the best Ford political item we have ever seen. Proceeds of this auction will be used for the new Student Learning Center being developed by the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation. This lot will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by Steve Ford.Auction Info
