Description
Abraham Lincoln: Manuscript Pass to Trial of Lincoln Co-conspirator. "Admit Bearer Geo. P. Fisher" is inscribed on the front of this 3.25" x 3" piece of ruled notebook paper. On the back, in another hand "Pass to Trial of John Surratt July 1867" was written. Surratt was one of the Lincoln co-conspirators, son of the executed Mary Surratt. After Lincoln's assassination, he escaped to Europe and got employment as a Papal Guard. His identify revealed, he was brought back for trial in the U.S., but was released after a hung jury verdict. Upon his release, Surratt began touring on the lecture circuit. George P. Fisher was the Presiding Judge at his trial. This is the only example we are aware of.Auction Info
