Description

Andrew Jackson: Hand-Colored Snuff Box. 3 1/2" papier-mâché snuff box. It has a half-length portrait of Andrew Jackson in military uniform, closely modeled on the portrait seen on an Andrew Jackson campaign token issued in 1824 (DeWitt AJACK-1824-1). We believe the image was originally an engraving which was then hand-painted. There is moderate crazing, as shown, with some loss to the black paint on the jacket. There is also typical chipping to the edges, just barely visible when viewed from the front. We can detect no repairs or restoration. A "fresh to the market" offering!
