Large octavo. With six chromolithographs by Smith and intertextual vignettes throughout by Mary Barton. 

Publisher's brown cloth, front board and spine lettered in gilt, pictorial side title printed in color, pictorial endpapers printed in yellow and blue. Gift inscription on blank recto of frontispiece. Letterpress bookplate affixed to front free endpaper. Occasional very subtle spotting to a few margins. A child's scrawl erased from the lower margin of page 37 and the rear pastedown. Rubbing to board extremities, with small bits of loss to corners (just exposing pasteboards) and abrasions to side title. Head and foot of spine slightly frayed. Overall a very good copy.
