Millar, 1749. First authorized edition. Octavo. xii, 9-251 pages. Later three-quarter brown leather over marbled boards with gilt floral stamping on the spine in compartments with five raised bands, and a gilt-lettered black morocco spine title label. Marbled endpapers. All edges stained black. Minor abrading to the binding. Mostly unobtrusive minor foxing and spotting. Very good. Written for private circulation in 1738 for the benefit of Frederick, Prince of Wales, and later distributed in an edited edition until Bolingbroke bought up these unauthorized copies and had them burned. He edited this edition and had it printed in 1749.
